Staying Sharp In The Summertime Packets

Wed, 06/04/2014 - 8:50am

The Elementary Curriculum Office will no longer be printing the Staying Sharp in the Summertime summer packets that usually go home with students in June. Instead, please share the below information in the newsletters to your families during your May and June issues. The up-to-date aligned resources identified below provide more activities and useful parent information than was available in the old summer packets.

  • Mathematics Resources: Elementary mathematics resources, websites, and activities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade
  • Language Arts Resources: The Elementary Language Arts Parent Support Website (Also linked to www.hcpss.org.)
    • The Elementary Language Arts Office has compiled a wealth of resources for parents that complement the instruction that takes place in the classrooms. This site contains information about the Common Core, includes overviews of what students will learn in each grade, and activities and technology links to support student learning. Research strongly reports the benefits of wide reading and writing to promote literacy growth. In addition to exploring the materials listed on this site, parents are encouraged to provide opportunities for students to read and write regularly throughout the summer.
  • Science Resources: Elementary science resources, websites, and activities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade
  • Social Studies Resources: Elementary social studies resources, websites, and activities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade
