SPRING PORTRAITS/CLASS GROUP PHOTOS
Spring individual and class group pictures will be taken this Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12. For the individual portraits no pre-payment is required. Strawbridge Studios will photograph every student and each student will receive a portrait package to take home. Families will decide which portrait sets they’d like to keep and submit payment or return the pictures to the school. Class photos are $10 each. Payments can be made online at Strawbridge.net using our school code 101265. Band, Stings, and Chorus group pictures will also be taken. These photo sessions had to be rescheduled due to snow day. Strings group pictures are scheduled for Monday afternoon. Chorus and Band group pictures are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
KINDERGARTEN & NEW FIRST GRADE REGISTRATION STARTS MARCH 11
Kindergarten Registration begins this Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15 at Elkridge Elementary School. Children who will be five years old as of September 1, 2019 must enroll in Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year.
Registration will take place daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at EES Front Office. There will be two evening registrations available: Tuesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
You will need to bring the following documents:
Birth certificate, birth registration or passport.
Current immunization record - must be a print out from the pediatrician and signed.
Deed or lease to your home
Current utility bill
Photo ID of parent/guardian registering the student
Please visit the Howard County Public School System website for complete information about enrollment and registration. You can follow steps 1-4 at home and Online before finalizing the process in step 5. You may begin the online registration as early as February 25. Please note that, even if you start the process online, you must visit the school during kindergarten registration week to complete the registration. You will need to provide your driver’s license at that time.
Pre-K Registration 2018-19 School Year
Pre-K applications will be accepted beginning March 5th for our Pre-K program. Students must be 4 years of age by September 1, 2018 in order to apply. This Pre-K program is based on income eligibility and approval needs to be granted prior to registration. Applications will be available on the HCPSS website or in the front office beginning Monday, March 11th.
Family S.T.E.A.M Night
Please join us next Friday, March 22 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm as we explore the world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math! Children will be able to work with their family and friends to complete fun and engaging activities by using the Engineering Design Process. On March 1st we began a month-long fundraiser, the proceeds of which will be used to purchase curriculum-based read-alouds for our classrooms. You can support your child/children’s efforts by helping track the number of minutes read each day during the month of March, and by asking friends and family to show their support for the readers at Elkridge with their monetary pledges and/or donations. Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA)
Attention 5th Grade Parents: Students in the 5th grade will continue to take the MISA assessment March 13, 14, 18 & 22. Maryland Integrated Science Assessment is Maryland’s new NGSS-aligned standardized science assessment. MISA replaces the MSA Science and HAS Biology tests in all Maryland schools. Guiding Good Choices Parenting Classes:
Free for Parents of 9-14 Year Olds. HC DrugFree and the Howard County State's Attorney's Office will once again provide evidence-based classes for parents to gain skills and knowledge to reduce the risk that their children will use drugs. This 4-week series will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 12, 19 and 26 in the Elkridge Library. Parents are expected to attend all 4 sessions. Drive-thru EpiPen, Medication and More Collection
Howard County's next convenient drive-thru collection for over-the-counter and prescription medication and “sharps” (needles, syringes and EpiPens) will be held on Saturday, April 27 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Wilde Lake Village Center parking lot near the Swim Center and The UPS Store. HC DrugFree and the Howard County Police urge you to clean out your medicine cabinets. Teams, clubs, students, PTAs/PTSAs, families, scouts, etc. are welcome to volunteer at the event and receive community service hours. HCPSS GT SUMMER INSTITUTE
Enrollment is now open for the HCPSS Gifted and Talented Summer Institutes located at Wilde Lake Middle School. The G/T Summer Institutes provide interested students with advanced-level instruction and enrichment experiences not regularly available during the academic school year. Advanced-level classes are offered in mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, technology, and fine arts. The curriculum is focused on talent development and provides academically and artistically rigorous activities. The program runs for two separate sessions; the first from July 1st- July 12th and the second from July 15th- July 26th. More information can be found at https://www.hcpss.org/summer-programs/.

Elkridge Elementary Moms (grandmas or other special adults are welcome too), please join us for a light breakfast with your kids before school. Breakfast begins at 8:20 am and concludes at 9:00 am. Due to the popularity of this event we have split this event into two separate dates. Students with the last name A-L are invited to attend Thursday, March 14. Students with the last name M-Z are invited to attend Friday, March 15. Flyers were sent home with students. Please RSVP by March 8th. Hope to see you there!
